Keeping the cats safe

Sacramento’s industrial park’s are known for constant movement, heavy equipment, and busy workdays. What many people don’t realize is that this same area is also home to several long‑established cat colonies. These cats have lived here for years, cared for by a few dedicated people who make sure they have food and water. Their biggest challenge is simply staying safe in an environment that was never designed for animals.

The daily flow of trucks, machinery, and employee vehicles creates real danger. Cats often rest under parked cars for shade, and during colder months they look for warmth near tires or inside engine compartments. A quick moment of awareness can prevent serious harm. Before starting your vehicle, take a look underneath and give the hood a couple of taps so any cat hiding inside has a chance to move away.

Although the cats already have caretakers who feed them and keep an eye on their wellbeing, anyone who works in the area can help. Driving slowly, staying alert, and checking your vehicle before you leave are simple habits that make a big difference. The cats also help keep the rodent population under control, so keeping them safe benefits the entire area.
